In August of 2021 Greece was experiencing one of the fiercest heatwaves in its temperature history. As a result, like in many other European countries at the time, fires broke out in both woodland areas and residential areas near nature. When the news was announced, Samaras Mining already knew we had to be the first to help with the situation. All of our equipment operators, technical experts and mechanical engineering teams were ready and eager to face the fire. Our people worked in tandem with teams of firefighters to open up roads for the firetrucks and necessary equipment to access and reach the affected forests. Our CAT equipment was used to open up special fire free zones to stop the fire in its tracks and separate the forest areas so that the fire could not spread further. The equipment was vital in protecting residential areas, as in many cases the fire had reached several houses. We were amazed at the power of CAT machines and the amount of support they provided. Our participation in such an endeavor left our teams with a sense of pride for being able to directly assist, while at the same time with a feeling of sadness for the environmental catastrophe it left in its wake. We hope we are never again faced with such circumstances in our home country, but as climate change becomes ever more present, we promise to offer our immediate support in the future if ever needed.
